We were called to be fruitful

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit —fruit that will last – and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.

(John 15:16)

Many of us feel very busy doing things all day long and yet go to bed with the feeling of not doing enough. This feeling may last days, weeks, maybe years. So, it’s about time for us to ask ourselves whether we’re doing the right thing or not.  Sometimes we’re so busy doing all kinds of things that we don’t have enough time to do what is really necessary to be done. However, God hasn’t called us to be busy. Instead, He has called us to be fruitful.

God has called each one of us with a purpose in life. And the sooner we discover what this purpose is the better. This way we can invest all our time, wisdom and energy doing what really matters. And whatever it is, it’s going to make us feel joyful and truly fulfilled because we know we’re in the center of God’s will. And there’s no better place to be.

In John 15.5 Jesus says that this is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. So, this is the right motivation. His disciples should bear not only to please God, but also to glorify Him. Glorifying God means recognizing His majesty, sovereignty and divinity; recognizing He is the only God and accepting it is our mission, because he called you out of darkness into his wonderful light (2 Pe 2:9).

According to the verses 5 and 8 of John 15, it’s not an ordinary fructification, but a big one. We’re supposed to bear much fruit. However, it’s mandatory we’re connected to Him.  “If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). It means permanent relationship with Jesus. The people around us must notice that whatever we do is an extension of who we are. They’ve got to notice the intensity of our relationship with God.

Before we worry about doing for Jesus, we have to worry about being with Jesus and knowing what His will is and what direction to take so that our fruits remain for the Glory of God.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me invest my time and energy in things that really matters for your kingdom and help me be as fruitful as you wish.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
