Forgetting what is behind

But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and

 straining toward what is ahead,”

(Philippians 3:13)

Like a dedicated runner, Paul has an only objective in life. He knows that just as a runner cannot be successful unless they focus on the race, neither can he be outstanding in Christ if he allows other goals to obstruct his way. Therefore, he keeps all his attention on the road in front of him. A runner cannot look back neither can Paul. Instead, he concentrates on improving each step in his race until reaching the goal of being with Christ.

We want to leave behind only what does not bring us good memories. Behind Paul leaves the difficulties, the sufferings, the obstacles, the bad days, the mistakes, the threats, the misfortunes, the shipwrecks, the hunger, the persecutions, the fears, the cold nights, the unexpected unpleasant situations; all those things that could easily make him complain, moan, and give up.

However, he decides not to be influenced by them. He decides to keep his eye on the Lord and his promises. Because ahead is the prize for those who do not look back. Ahead is our home in heaven, new name, new body, eternal life with Christ, no pain, no suffering, no cries. It’s worth straining toward what is ahead, isn’t it?

As it is a matter of decision, I encourage you to develop a daily habit of reading the Bible and spending time in prayer so that God can teach you how to do that.   This is where we get enough strength to overcome hard moments in life. As a Christian, it’s important to not let your obstacles in life tear you away from your faith. Instead, these are the moments where you need faith the most. If you are stuck in a pit of despair, don’t let yourself give up. Reach out and call God’s name. He is there right beside you.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me keep my eyes on you and on your promises. I pray so that your Holy Spirit helps me replace any negative emotion with your huge love. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Our Prayers Should Be Aligned With God’s Will

Prayer is the most important thing a Christian can do. God has countless ways to communicate with us. We, however, have only one single way to talk to Him, prayers. How can we say we know God if we do not invest enough time and effort to strengthen this relationship? What does He want from you and how can you fulfill His expectations?
