“And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.”
(2 Kings 5:10 – KJV)
As we continue to learn the way God works, we discover that He often chooses what is simple to accomplish what is extraordinary. While we tend to associate power with complexity, God frequently works through simple acts of obedience.
Naaman expected something impressive and dramatic, yet God gave him a simple instruction. At first, it seemed too ordinary to produce a miracle. His expectation of something greater almost prevented him from receiving what God had prepared.
This reveals an important truth: the power is not in the complexity of the action, but in obedience to God’s word. What may seem small or insignificant carries great power when it is aligned with His will.
In our daily lives, we often overlook simple acts of faith—prayer, obedience, forgiveness, consistency. Yet it is through these that God works deeply in us and through us. When we humble ourselves and follow His direction, even in small things, we position ourselves to experience His power.
Living this way requires humility and attentiveness. It means trusting God’s instructions even when they do not match our expectations. It means believing that His ways, though simple, are always effective.
Prayer: Lord, forgive me for the times I have overlooked the simple things You have asked me to do. Teach me to obey You with humility, even when Your instructions seem ordinary. Remove pride and resistance from my heart, and give me a willing spirit. Help me trust that Your power is at work even in the simplest acts of obedience. In Jesus’ name, amen.
