“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I
am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:19)
When God spoke these words to Israel, He was addressing a people who knew His power through past miracles. They remembered how God had opened the Red Sea, making a path where there was none. God could have repeated the same miracle again to prove His strength—but instead, He chose to do something new. This reveals an important truth: God is not limited to repeating what He has done before. His power is the same, but His methods are often different. Rather than opening a sea, He promises to make a road in the wilderness. Rather than water flowing from a rock, He brings streams into the wasteland. The miracle is not smaller—just new.
God asks, “Do you not perceive it?” because familiarity with past works can sometimes prevent us from recognizing present ones. We may expect God to act the same way again, while He is already working in a fresh and unexpected way. This verse invites us to trust God beyond our expectations. He may not repeat yesterday’s miracle, but He will reveal His faithfulness today in a way perfectly suited to our current need.
Prayer:
Lord, help me not to limit You by my past experiences. Open my eyes to see the new work You are doing, even when it looks different from what I expect. Give me faith to trust Your power, no matter the form it takes. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
