Hearing: listening to God’s voice in a created world

“He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” (Matthew 11:15)

Sound surrounds us constantly — voices, music, rhythms, silence. God designed our ears to detect subtle differences in tone and volume, enabling communication, relationship, and learning. Through hearing, we connect deeply with others and respond to the world around us.

Creation itself speaks. The Bible tells us that the heavens declare God’s glory, and though they use no words, their message goes out to all the earth. When we listen attentively, we can hear God’s order and intention in the harmony of creation.

More importantly, hearing reminds us that God is a speaking God. He communicates His will, His truth, and His love. A heart that listens is a heart positioned for obedience and transformation.

May we quiet the noise around us and within us, learning again to hear — both the sounds of creation and the gentle voice of our Creator.

Prayer: Lord, You are a God who speaks. Teach us to listen attentively — not only to the world You created, but to Your voice guiding our lives. Quiet our anxious thoughts and sharpen our spiritual hearing, so we may follow You with obedience and trust. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
