Our Prayers Should Be Aligned With God’s Will

Prayer is the most important thing a Christian can do. God has countless ways to communicate with us. We, however, have only one single way to talk to Him, prayers. How can we say we know God if we do not invest enough time and effort to strengthen this relationship?  What does He want from you and how can you fulfill His expectations?

Are you aligning your prayers with God’s will for you, or do you simply go out, run after those dreams, and then try to fit God into them? Let me tell you something, the chances of failing or getting frustrated are extremely high.

You can either choose this worthwhile way or choose your own way, striving bravely but never feeling accomplished. No matter how hard you try, when you do your way, there’s always a feeling that something is missing. Do you know Why? Because it is not about having what we want from God, but it is about making us want what God wants.  And it takes some time for us to get used to this new concept. That is why we’ve got to pray every single day.

God’s people need to humble themselves and pray, aligning their prayers with the will of God. The Bible gives us several examples of that. When the king Jehoshaphat aligned His prayers with God’s will, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated. When Joshua aligned his prayers with God’s will, the sun stood still in its orbit and the Israelites won the battle. When Hannah, who was barren, aligned her prayers with the will of God, God granted her and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son.

The apostle James in chapter 4 verse 3 says that “when you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” Therefore, all we’ve got to do, as children of God, is to approach God, seek His presence and accept to be let by the Holy Spirit, who will provide us with the wisdom of God to make the right prayers. And if you still have some difficulty, Romans 8:26 instructs us saying that “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” So, just do it.

Prayer: Father, help me have my prayer aligned with your will. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Prayer and Resolutions for the Year

Even in popular knowledge, and cross culturally, humans find making plans an especially important part of life. Defining goals is key to any type of planning and as the beginning of the year is the time where most of us get reflective on what we are going to do, it is nice to have some type of help in it. Last week, we saw an excerpt that showed us a great way to ask God to guide us in defining our goals for a new year if we want them to be effective and blessed.
