Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul,
he said, ‘Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you
were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the
Holy Spirit.’” (Acts 9:17 (NIV))
When we think about the apostle Paul, we think about one of the greatest missionaries and writers of the New Testament. But before Paul became Paul, he was Saul — a persecutor of the church.
God chose an almost unknown disciple named Ananias to go to Saul. Ananias was afraid. He knew Saul’s reputation. Yet, he obeyed God’s voice.
Ananias laid his hands on Saul, prayed for him, and Saul received his sight and was filled with the Holy Spirit. That simple act of obedience changed the course of Christian history.
Ananias did not travel the world or write letters that became Scripture. But his faithfulness opened the door for someone who would.
God does not measure greatness the way the world does. Sometimes, eternity is changed through one obedient step taken by someone whose name is almost forgotten.
Prayer: Lord, help me trust You even when I feel afraid. Teach me that my obedience, even in small acts, can have eternal impact. Use my life according to Your purpose. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
