So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
(Isaiah 41.10)
One of my greatest weaknesses is to believe “I can do it all”. Not only once, for a long time, I believed I could work a full-time job, be a mother and a wife, do all the cooking, cleaning, organizing,… find time to study, volunteer at church, be a good listener to friends, dedicate some time to the Word of God, … all in my own strength.
Without Christ, though, I am weak. I am helpless. My own strength, be it physical, mental, or emotional, simply doesn’t last. The man who deep down trusts in himself cannot help but slowly walk away from God. When in fact God warns us in Proverbs 3 verses 5 and 6 to “trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Our power is small and often failing, but his power is abundant and never exhausted. Our understanding is extremely limited and often flawed, but his understanding is universal and inscrutable. Why would we ever rely on ourselves?
So, let’s follow the advice that the writer of Hebrews wrote on Chapter 4 verse 16: “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Because of Jesus, the throne of grace is available, and we have access to God’s presence. He wants to listen to us and help us whenever we need. Don’t miss this chance!
Prayer: Father, I praise you and thank you because I’m not alone. I glorify your name because you are with me holding my right hand, strengthening me, and guiding me into the right path so that I do not stumble. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
