“For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.” (Matthew 16:25 – KJV)
As we continue to understand the way of God, we are confronted with another truth that challenges our natural instincts: in His Kingdom, gaining often comes through losing. While the world encourages us to hold on, accumulate, and protect what is ours, God calls us to surrender and trust Him fully.
Jesus taught that a life centered on self-preservation ultimately leads to loss, while a life surrendered for His sake leads to true life. This surrender goes beyond external actions—it involves yielding our desires, plans, expectations, and control to God.
At first, this seems contradictory and even uncomfortable. Letting go can feel like defeat. Yet, in God’s way, surrender is never wasted. What we place in His hands is transformed according to His purpose. What appears to be loss becomes gain—not always in the way we expect, but always according to what is eternal.
This truth invites us to live differently. Instead of striving to control everything, we are called to trust God with our lives. Instead of clinging to our own plans, we are encouraged to seek His will above all. This may require letting go of personal ambitions, releasing outcomes, and choosing obedience even when it costs us.
When we embrace this way of God, we begin to understand that true life is not found in what we keep, but in what we surrender. What seems like loss in the present becomes gain in eternity.
Prayer: Lord, I confess that it is not easy to let go of what I hold dear. Many times I try to control my life and preserve my own plans. Teach me to trust You more deeply and to understand that true life is found in surrender. Help me to release control, to yield my will, and to place everything in Your hands. Strengthen my faith to believe that nothing surrendered to You is ever lost. In Jesus’ name, amen.
