“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9 – KJV)
As we look at the way God works throughout Scripture, we begin to notice a pattern that challenges human reasoning. What we often perceive as weakness, loss, insignificance, or simplicity becomes, in God’s hands, the very means through which He accomplishes His purposes. From the lives of His servants to the ultimate work accomplished through Christ, God consistently acts in ways that overturn human expectations.
In this series, we will reflect on how God operates in ways that are often contrary to the logic of the world. As we learn to understand His ways, we are invited not only to admire them, but to live according to them—trusting that His way is always higher, wiser, and perfect.
As we look at the way God works, we begin to understand that what we consider weakness is often the very place where He reveals His power. While the world values strength, independence, and control, God invites us into a life of dependence and trust.
The apostle Paul experienced this truth in a deeply personal way. Instead of being strengthened by the absence of difficulty, he was taught to live sustained by grace in the midst of his weakness. What he longed to see removed became the very means through which the power of Christ was manifested in his life. This shows us that God does not depend on ideal conditions to work; rather, He works powerfully through surrendered lives.
In God’s way, weakness is not a limitation but an invitation. When we try to hide our struggles, we rely on ourselves. But when we bring them before Him, we create space for His grace to operate. This requires humility, honesty, and a willingness to trust that His strength is greater than our limitations.
Living this truth means choosing dependence over self-sufficiency. It means trusting that difficulties are not signs of God’s absence, but opportunities to experience His presence more deeply. It also means understanding that we do not need to be “strong enough” to be used by God, because His power is revealed precisely in our weakness.
When we embrace this way of God, our perspective changes. What once discouraged us becomes the very place where His strength is made visible in our lives.
Prayer:Lord, I recognize that many times I try to be strong on my own and hide my weaknesses. Forgive me for relying more on my own ability than on Your grace. Teach me to depend on You in every area of my life. Help me to understand that Your power is made perfect in my weakness, and give me the courage to bring my limitations before You. May my life reflect not my strength, but Your power. In Jesus’ name, amen.
